Stochastic belongs to the range until it does not

The middle band is a place, not a failure

The stochastic oscillator compares the close with the recent high-low range. In a quiet box, %K and %D travel from one extreme toward the other and the crosses near those extremes have a setting: the edges of the box. In the middle of the panel, crosses happen too, and they usually mean the close is wandering inside the range rather than rejecting an edge.

The clinic packet includes a week where %K hooks above %D around the midpoint while price does nothing a person would notice. We leave that cross unmarked. Attention is a limited thing. The room spends it on crosses that occur after the oscillator has actually reached an extreme.

When the range breaks

A stochastic that pins high while price leaves the box is no longer describing a range. It is describing a close that keeps finishing near the top of a widening window. Selling that pin because the study 'looks high' is how people donate a trend to someone else. We practiced this on a KOSDAQ name last spring: four weeks of a high pin, then a range, then a stochastic that finally had room to swing again.

Slow settings, the ones that smooth %K, are what we print. Fast stochastics chatter on a daily chart and exhaust the pencil. If you trade a much shorter bar, book a Chart Desk Review and bring those bars; the Monday circle and the Saturday clinic will not switch timeframes to meet you.

A sentence you can write

After the third studio sitting we ask for one sentence, not a plan. Something like: price is still inside last month's box, and the stochastic cross happened at the lower edge, so the oscillator and the range are telling the same story. Or: price has left the box, and the stochastic is pinned, so this is no longer a range reading.

That sentence is the whole aim of the evening. The oscillator did not become a strategy. It became a description you can check next week against the same chart.
